This scenic route sets off from Colle di Buggiano and leads you through some of the most charming villages in the Valdinievole area. Spanning just under 10 kilometers with gentle elevation changes, the path takes you through Cozzile and Massa, both rich in historical art and full of picturesque corners.
Itinerary
The trail begins at the main parking lot in Colle di Buggiano. From there, you follow a beautifully paved stone road through the village and exit via the northern gate. Just follow the green and light blue arrows marking the path — they’ll guide you to Margine dei Ferri and Le Poiane.
Continuing along the Cessana stream, surrounded by oaks and chestnut trees, you’ll come across the ruins of a 19th-century gunpowder mill. At a fork in the path, take Trail 3 to the right, climbing toward Cucco and Vinzacchia. Before long, you’ll reach Cozzile, a hilltop village with a stunning panoramic terrace. On a clear day, you can take in views that stretch across nearly all of Tuscany’s provinces.
After passing through Cozzile, the route continues to Massa, one of the oldest fortified towns in the area — a perfect place for a brief exploration. Leaving Massa behind, you’ll pass through Vetrignano before circling back to Colle di Buggiano to complete the loop.
