To the north of Pescia lies the territory of the upper valley of the homonymous river, called Valleriana or Svizzera Pesciatina, a picturesque area rich in natural and scenic beauty. You can explore these magnificent lands by bike following the heart-shaped itinerary organised by the CAI of Pescia. Marked with white and red CAI trail signs, the route starts from Pescia and crosses part of the Valleriana, exploring stunning places that stay close to the heart.

Itinerary

Starting from Pescia, the route climbs old mule tracks and trails immersed in nature. You pass by the church of Santa Margherita, an excellent viewpoint. Continuing uphill, you reach Medicina and San Quirico, two of the ten Castella of the Valleriana, up to the hamlet of Calamari. The ascent continues on a mule track to the medieval village of Vellano, another of the Castella. Following the Heart Trail, you reach Macchino via a comfortable forest road. Next, you pass through the locality of Malocchio, where you can refill water bottles. From here, continuing on, you enjoy a wonderful panorama of the entire Valdinievole valley and soon reach Pescia, where the two halves of the heart reunite.
