This route offers a wonderful opportunity to explore the beauty of the Montalbano hillsides, dotted with fortified villages and set within a memorable agricultural landscape of gentle curves. Along the way, you can visit the medieval village of Larciano Castello and discover its history through the many archaeological finds housed in the Civic Museum.

Itinerary

The route begins in the center of Larciano Castello, within the defensive walls of the village, which are still remarkably well preserved. Leaving through Porta San Marco, you follow CAI trail 826, which leads through olive groves and offers wide views of Monsummano, Montevettolini, and the Pisani Mountains. Continuing along the trail, you reach Cecina, a small fortified village worth a stop. From here, a steady climb leads to the locality of Case di Monte. Just past the village, turn right to join trail 800, which runs along the Montalbano ridge. The trail continues toward the slopes of Poggio Albano (418 m) and then past Mungherino. Shortly after, the trail skirts around Poggio Le Murielle (442 m), and from there you take CAI trail 822. A downhill section brings you quickly back to Larciano Castello.
