Since 1898, the Funicular has been the most comfortable, fastest, and most scenic way to reach the village of Montecatini Alto. The two charming red trains, Gigio and Gigia, complete the journey in just 8 minutes and 30 seconds. Alongside the Funicular line, there is a picturesque trail winding through woods and olive groves.

Itinerary

The route starts from the parking lot at Piazzale Giusti, near the Tettuccio thermal baths in Montecatini Terme, a wonderful place to visit. In the courtyard of the baths, there are fountains flowing with waters from four beneficial springs, topped by seven allegorical panels made of ceramic tiles depicting the stages of life. Don’t miss the park with its English garden and the historic bar inside the building.

After leaving the Tettuccio baths, head toward the Funicular to comfortably reach Montecatini Alto. Upon arrival in the historic center, you can still see the remains of the ancient walls. After exploring the village, from Piazza Barbano e Giovanetti, take the CAI Trail 261A for a very short stretch. At the first fork, turn right onto CAI 239A and continue downhill for about one and a half kilometers until you reach the starting point in Montecatini Terme.
