From Saturday, February 8, to Monday, June 2, 2025, at the Paper Museum – Cartiera Le Carte, discover the exhibition Giuseppe Ungaretti, Il Porto Sepolto 1923. History of an Edition. The exhibition and related initiatives are curated by the Pistoia Museum System – SIMUP.

The exhibition explores the origins of Il Porto Sepolto 1923, a volume prefaced by Benito Mussolini and enriched with woodcuts by Francesco Gamba, printed in 500 numbered copies on watermark paper produced by Casa Magnani.

For the first time, the project focuses on the “paper heritage” of the Pescia institution. Thanks to unpublished documents from the Magnani Historical Archive, it has been possible to identify the printing location—Stabilimento di Arti Grafiche S. Belforte & C. in Livorno—while reconstructing the development of the paper support and watermark, with comparisons to the watermark paper mold preserved at the museum.

The exhibition, made possible through loans from private collectors and public institutions, is accompanied by a catalog edited by Edoardo Barbieri, with a foreword by Carlo Ossola, published by Salomone Belforte & C. of Livorno.

The exhibition and its initiatives are supported by the Tuscany Region, as part of the 2024 Museum Systems grant.
