The loop takes you through a territory rich in springs, ancient fortified villages, and stunning landscapes. It starts in Montecatini Terme, one of the UNESCO cities in the “The Great Spa Towns of Europe” circuit, and leads to Grotta Giusti, the largest thermal cave in Europe. The route can be done by bike or on foot, in a full day of walking.

Itinerary

The route begins at the thermal complex of Montecatini, featuring the historic buildings of Terme Tettuccio, Terme Redi, and the thermal gardens. After visiting, the path heads to Montecatini Alto along Trail 239A, called the “Via Crucis.” Upon reaching the village, you immediately notice the remains of fortifications, such as the Clock Tower. From the village, you join CAI Trail 240, which passes through Pieve a Nievole and leads to the foot of Monsummano Alto hill. Here, on CAI Trail 832, you cross the quarry area and continue toward Grotta Giusti. The cave extends over 200 meters underground, and among stalactites and stalagmites, visitors can benefit from the therapeutic vapors. Returning to the itinerary, you pass the Rossa, Bianca, Grigia, and Grande quarries before reaching Monsummano Terme. After a stroll in the town, you continue to join the San Jacopo Way path that leads back to Montecatini Terme.
